Going on holiday abroad used to be something to look forward to, where you would picture yourself laying on a beach, below beautiful skies with a cold drink to hand, months before you are due to go. This picturesque image has been replaced by the thought of having to drive on the M25 toget to Heathrow airport for example, and the thought of the accidents, which regularly occur, on this busy motorway. If one lane is closed the queue can quickly become 5 miles long and add an hour to your journey or in the worst case you miss your flight altogether.
Upon arriving at the airport the next thing you have to do is to find the correct car park for your terminal. You would think this would be a doddle but with hundreds of like minded souls struggling getting in the correct lane or managing a roundabout especially if it is dark can be a traumatic experience. Looking at a map of the airport on paper is definantly different at ground level. To avoid this I now always use the services of an off airport car park, Birmingham airport parking for example, whereby I can simply arrive up at their compound and they will take me directly to the terminal and its cheaper. The best way to steer clear from all this heartache if you have the time is to travel down the day before and book a Heathrow hotels package for instance. This certainly tends to get the holiday off to a more relaxed mood.
I am always more relaxed once I have got my tickets, passed through security both of which, following increased security seems to take longer each time I travel, and I am sitting airside. The travel to the airport and parking is in my opinion the worst part about travelling abroad.
