Obviously cold sores are annoying and irritating! It’s a skin condition that affects millions of people and one that has caused medical companies to make hundreds of different treatments and look for a cold sore cure. However, as many people have found out, most of the products out there just don’t work. Cold sores can be hard to eliminate and many people go their whole lives dealing with this problem.

Don’t worry if you get cold sores as there are some simple steps that you can take to combat the issue and prevent any outbreaks. Not only can you take some steps to prevent any flareups, but you can also use a few tricks to lessen the length you have a cold sore when they do come about. It is possible to stop cold sores when you make a few simple changes.

First, if you out in the sun a lot, wear a lip balm or chapstick that has SPF protection. Although we all love the sun, it can be your enemy and cause cold sores. When you use a balm with protection against UV rays, you will block the suns rays from being able to create new cold sores from sprouting up.

Second, make a point to wash your hands often. This is simply advice, but you would be amazed at how many people completely ignore his rule! The truth is that Your hands come in contact with many types of bacteria and dirt throughout the day. When you touch your skin, it’s easy to transfer this bacteria to your face, lips or other body parts. Certain bacteria have been found to cause cold sores – by washing your hands or using an antibacterial gel regularly, you will drastically minimize the number of outbreaks you will experience.

Finally, take care of yourself! Make sure you get enough rest and that you are treating your body well. The more stress you put on your body, the harder it is for your body to fight off viruses (which is what cold sores are). Have a good diet, exercise regularly and try to eliminate the stresses in your life. Although this might be a very broad tip, it is crucial in preventing cold sores. This can make all the difference.
