Collagen Induction Therapy is a method which often involves going to a specialist. However, micro-needling of the skin is a type of collagen induction therapy which can be done in your own house, in your own time; this can smooth out wrinkles, improves scarring and reduces stretch marks.
A common factor in the creation of scars, wrinkles, stretch marks and uneven skin is a lack of collagen. Microneedling encourages collagen production in the skin, preventing and even reversing their formation.
Skin micro-needling is a process carried out with a roller that is covered with several tiny needles. These needles puncture the top layer of skin and carefully part the pores of the skin. This process has 2 big advantages; it effectively stimulates collagen creation at the same time as allowing creams applied to the skin to be absorbed more effectively through the topmost layer (epidermis) of skin. Micro-needling (skin needling) creates a very small trauma which lasts for about one hour and doesn’t cause the skin to break or bleed in the treated area in the way that laser therapy or microdermabrasion do.
The microscopic punctures (which are often just the opening of the pores of your skin) caused by the skin needling or microneedling, encourage collagen production in the second layer of skin (the dermis) and it creates the right environment for collagen and elastin formation. These key ingredients help the skin to cosmetically repair.
There are several alternatives to skin needling, and a lot of these require visits to a specialist. These include laser therapy and Micro-Dermabrasion. Using a skin roller at home is generally much cheaper.
