A fungus called Candida Albicans, which is actually white spots on the gums, is in the mouth of every person. In a body kept healthy, this fungus is maintained by helpful bacteria. But there are some products such as antiobiotics and birth control that kill and weaken the helpful bacteria, making way for the Candida Albicans to grow and take over.
Leukoplakia, a condition that means “white plaque,” also is a cause of those white spots on your gums, and is commonly found on the inside of the cheek, on or under the tongue, below the lips, or even on the roof of your mouth. The spots could be small, or similar to the size of a quarter; although they are not cancerous, they could indeed be a warning sign of a pre-cancerous condition caused by frequent irritation. People who smoke are more likely to have leukoplakia because of the constant heat irritation in their mouth from the pipe or cigarette.
If you want to avoid having these white spots form on your gums and are willing to sacrifice a couple hundred dollars for professional help, then the best option for you would be to have an in-office treatment session, especially if you know that you have sensitive gums or teeth.
